Planning

We created this piece of work together, whcih was then presented by Katherine to put onto the blogs.

This piece of work was created by Katherine, yet the understanding of our brand was talked discussed before so we both had the same understanding.

Text Style Research:

Both the sound and tutorials were found by Katherine, but checked and sent to Shannon to gain a full understanding of the videos messages.

In order to improve our editing skills, we decided to find some final cut tutorials

We found a specific user on Youtube who made Final Cut Pro tutorial videos - with the new update. They're simple to follow and can really advance our production as we didn't know that was an option before. We chose this tutorial as it makes the text flicker (he shows this at the start) and we feel this would include more of a tension building tone into our production as if it forebodes something will happen. It looks modern and advanced yet also fits into our genre.

We also chose the slow motion tutorial to learn from because it is a convention that breaks the realism of the shots and therefore, connoting a thriller. Although we already knew how to do this on final cut pro, he offers an option to make it seem more real and smoother. We could include this at and part of our trailer - but we think it would work better at our ambiguous ending.

We've seen this variation used many times in productions as it allows the piece to portray itself as more professional. Also, to complement the genre of thriller - this editing technique can be varied in order to create a similar effect to this but multiple times. This makes the screen seem as if it is moving but the imaging stays the say - again, another way to break the realism of the trailer.

The vine above would be very useful for our photo montage in the establishing shots, the transition is smooth and is better than just adding in a type of cut.

Again, we feel we could use this towards the end of our trailer during the montage of video shots and it's unusual and includes tension. We want to use this between the positive and negative shots to enforce the idea of good vs evil.

The soundtrack above is the type of music we would want to play all the way through the trailer. For the reason being it starts with a calm, slow rhythmic tone and gradually begins to build up into a faster, quicker paced and louder tone. We feel this would be clear to the audience that the tension is building and is foreshadowing negative events that unfold in the film. For the start, this is a prime example of the soundtrack we want behind the montage of photos. However, the end seems slightly too dramatic for our thriller, as this seems to match more of a action sub-genre rather than a crime or psychological.

The film on the time at: 00:00 - 01.00 (The hills have eyes), 02:00 - 03.00 (Final Destination) are again very similar to how we want to achieve our soundtrack. Especially 'The hills have eyes' because the soundtrack gradually increases to a faster paced. Final Destination does do this, but at a faster rate - so if spread out more, this again would be a prime example. Another thriller in this video, 'Dead Silence' which isn't what we want to achieve. Due to the pace building immediately and having too much of a quick pace and low pitch, which seems to be from an action thriller or not appropriate for the trailer.

In order to overcome copy-right issue, we will use different clips of sound and edit them together on Apple's software 'Garage Band'. We will find the clips on websites such as 'SoundCloud', a free streaming and non-copyright website.

The example above the sort of sound that we would want to build on when going into the middle when the tension first begins to build. As the sound is a low pitch and slow pace, it allows us to easily build up with other sounds to create the soundtrack we would want.

The above sound is an example of the clips that we would build on the sound above this one. These sounds allow us to add the narrative - this example would be added onto the end in order to support the narrative of the ambiguous ending of if the protagonist dies or not.

This was originally planned together on paper and then presented differently onto our blogs.

Before we started to film, we thought it would we useful to create a story board. Therefore, it will be easier to create a shooting plan from and when to do certain shots. This also means we are less likely to miss shots and our actresses are able to have an idea of what we want to create - as the visuals will demonstrate our ideas to then rather then us just telling them.

In order to stick to the expected structure of a trailer, we'll include the production and distribution logo at the start of the trailer with information with issues regarding the legal
institutional regulations. We'll then include a blank screen to break up from the actual performance of the trailer.

The first shot refers to how we want to develop a screen recording of photos as if going through a photo album on the Facebook application that allows you to do so. These montages/shots will be screen recorded with photos of friends to distinguish the setting and begin to develop a happy tone with the calm soundtrack (which will eventually be broken down). The title to break up the actual acting on the Skype application (shot 3) also develops the same tone). The Skype sequence introduces the characters in the setting that they're mirrored in.

The second title here then begins to suggest a foreboding event, yet doesn't give too much away. We did this to grab the audience's interest and make them question the trailers motives. The third shot in this strip is when the characters will both be directly seen together, introducing them further.

We then decided to again bring in the element of having social media that communicates the two girls together on a platform that is familiar to the audience whilst breaking up the narrative. The third shot is the girl watching the TV show she is obsessed with, developing that idea further to single her out and exaggerate her isolation from society norms.

The last shot in this strip protagonist watching the same thing, yet showing an contrasting expression - building onto the idea of the TV show not being norm to be obsessed with and isn't sane.

The shots from now on are shorter, with cuts in between them to form a tension building montage.

We chose the next two sequences to juxtapose each other, having the protagonist feel secure with the antagonist and the antagonist plotting against the protagonist. A title will then establish this idea.

The second shot here is a longer shot of the other one from before, we did this to embed the idea for the audience with the image of the antagonist.

The soundtrack in the last shot stops abruptly, to shock the audience and leave with an ambiguous ending.

Again, we're staying with the expected structure of the typical trailer. The tagline again is a way to finalise the audience's interest.

This allowed us to create our filming space and finalise the mise-en-scene we'll need.

This piece of work was created by Shannon

To make sure we won't forget anything, we create these cue cards to show the resources we'll be using and also our reasoning behind these.

Below is a table of what responsibilities we have to complete within our group and how we have planned to share the tasks between us, making sure we share the responsibilities equally. During filming/editing our production we will try and aim to stick to this table, however, we may find that in some places e.g. with lighting we may have to split this between us if one person is filming. This will vary depending on the situation but we aim to split the work equally between us.

Again, this was planned together & put on a presentation by Shannon

We have considered all the potential risks hazards we are likely to face whilst filming and have identified ways we can overcome/prevent them from happening.

We created this together, and Shannon put this onto a presentation

Our actresses will be given this to follow, yet we understand that they are the ones with experience in acting and therefore if they feel something will work better, we will value their opinion.
